Creating Class Rules

Students in room i119 spent time during the first week of school creating a list of classroom rules. We began this work by discussing why rules are so important. During this discussion, students concluded that rules are needed to help keep us healthy and safe. After we discussed the importance of rules, students worked in pairs to brainstorm possible rules for our classroom. Once the brainstorming process was complete, students spent time identifying trends in the rules they listed and sorted their rules into broader categories such as "using materials correctly" and "being respectful". Finally, as a class, we reviewed the rules we made and looked for common themes. From these common themes came five general, all encompassing classroom rules that we all agreed to follow.
